How to Design the Best Home for Health, Wellness & a Sense of Belonging

Your home design has a significant impact on your health and wellness. Whether using non-toxic materials or bringing in natural elements, it should promote healthy habits and bring a sense of peace and warmth to your home.

For example, a well-designed kitchen should have adequate landing areas and counter space to encourage healthy eating and meal preparation. You also need to be strategic about where you place the cooktop, sink, and fridge, so it is easy to wash, chop and cook.

Today, I’m sharing 3 ways you can invite wellness and tranquility into your home…

1. Create a Non-Toxic Atmosphere

Replace stale, toxic air by placing operable windows throughout your home to allow fresh air to flow easily. This reduces your family’s exposure to toxins and improves your cognitive function by adding oxygen to the air. Also, hardwood floors are the least toxic flooring options for good air quality.

2. The Importance of Functional Design

Incorporate space for movement throughout your home. For example, consider a standing desk in your office if you work from home. You can also build a fitness room to have a visible space dedicated to movement, not hiding in the basement. Exercise in your daily routine is essential to your health and wellness. The more you move around, the more energized you will feel.

3. Sensory Design Essentials

Introduce nature to your home with plants, water, and rocks around your home. Lighting also plays an integral part in a home design; you can make them wonderfully subtle, add drama, or create curiosity.

When planning a color palette, remember that cool colors are soothing, making them great for small rooms. Warm colors are associated with joy and playfulness. Think of the vibrancy of a bright orange or a rich red. These are good colors to add to rooms with a lot of activity.
